Advocacy
Independence House is actively involved in advocacy for human rights, freedom of expression and democracy. We do this through petitions to authorities in case of human rights violations, arrests, detentions and trials of journalists and demands for respect for human rights. We also engage stakeholders such as lawmakers and other government officials to formulate laws and policies which seek to protect and promote the rights of journalists, whistleblowers and those with dissenting political views. Our advocacy programmes also extend to the training of human, civil and political rights defenders to equip them with how they can effectively champion the protection and advancement of civil rights as stipulated in the constitution and other international laws.
