Director of Independence House: Cooperation Between the Government and Civil Society Critical for Sustainable Solutions.

The Executive Director of Independence House, Hassan Mahmoud, along with other officials from the organization, participated in the Civil Society Summit 2025 organized by SONSA, with support from UNDP and the UNTMIS Office. The conference brought together representatives from local organizations, government institutions, researchers, business leaders, and delegates from entities operating across the country.

The conference focused on the role of civil society in humanitarian, social development and peacebuilding. It also explored the Civil Society strategy engagements on the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus. The HDP is a framework for coordinating humanitarian aid development and peacebuilding (conflict prevention/resolution) efforts to tackle root causes of crises, reduce vulnerability, and build sustainable peace, rather than treating these areas separately.

In his contribution during a panel discussion on strengthening and securing sustainable economic solutions for civil society organizations, Mohamud emphasized the importance of cooperation between government institutions, civil society, and local businesses. He also highlighted the need to build shared values and common ground that communities can collectively use and share projects to build cohesion and trust among the communities.
