Independence House, in partnership with the Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ), convened a public forum at the Arkaan Centre in Mogadishu to discuss how Somalia can achieve an inclusive, transparent, and legitimate election process.
The forum brought together representatives from civil society, women’s organizations, students, media outlets, and public leadership.
The discussion panels: –
- Osman Muhuyidin Shaatax, Chairperson of Somalia Non-State Actors
- Mahad Waasuge, Executive Director of Somali Public Agenda
- Duniyo Mohamed Ali, Executive Director of the Somali Women Education Centre
- Mohamed Mohamud Adde; lecturers; veteran journalists
- Zahrokin Abdi Hirsi, former Deputy Minister of Women’s Affairs of Puntland.
Participants underscored the importance of inclusive dialogue, broad public participation, representation, transparency, and consensus in strengthening democracy, reconciliation, peace, and stability in Somalia. They called on all sides to come together at the discussion table, offering hope for a better and more peaceful future for the Somali people.
